Transferring Between Residential Houses
Once students are assigned to a House as rising sophomores or transfer students, it is assumed that students will live in that House through graduation. Occasionally, students want to transfer to another residential House. Students who matriculated to the College as first-year students may transfer after completing two terms of residency in the House to which they were assigned.
Intercollegiate transfer students may transfer after completing one term of residency in the House to which they were assigned. Applications are made in the term prior to when the transfer would take place (e.g., students who want to transfer in the fall apply in the spring).
Students may choose to transfer between Houses as an individual or as part of a group of two. If applying as a group, both students will be approved or denied together for the transfer.
Please note: The submission of an InterHouse Transfer application no way guarantees that a transfer will be approved. However, should the student's application for an InterHouse Transfer prove successful the student is REQUIRED to transfer to the new House. Students should be thoughtful when submitting this application and should speak with their House Administrator if they have any questions. If, after submission the student needs to change or withdraw his/her application, the student should contact the DSO via firstname.lastname@example.org.
Requests for an InterHouse transfer based on medical reasons are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Students seeking a medical InterHouse transfer should speak with their Allston Burr Resident Dean and schedule an appointment in the Office of Accessible Education. Transfers between Houses for medical reasons are rare, and specific Houses are not guaranteed.
