Dear Harvard College Students,
As you may know, the Head of the Charles Regatta will take place this weekend. Harvard College takes added security precautions for this event that has attracted large crowds of 200,000 and more to Harvard Square and the banks of the Charles River.
Please note that the following regulations will be in effect at the College:
1. Yard Closure on Friday and Saturday Nights
The gates of Harvard Yard will be locked from 9PM to 3AM on Friday and Saturday nights. Entry to the Yard during these times will be restricted to persons with a Harvard ID who may each accompany one guest. Access to the Yard will be through the Johnston, Lamont, Widener and Meyer (Thayer) gates only which will be staffed by HUPD and Securitas.
2. Guest Policy
It is not possible to house guests without the express permission of the House Office or Proctor in the host’s entry. Each student may house no more than one guest for the weekend. Please contact your proctor or House Office for guest registration process.
3. Social Events
Large late-night social events or functions sponsored by student organizations or House committees will not be permitted. Private parties are permitted at the discretion of the Houses/Yard.
Please note that the following regulations will be enforced by the Massachusetts State Police:
1. Existing Laws Against Public Consumption of Alcohol
Harvard University and Massachusetts State Police will strictly enforce the ban on alcohol. Officers will be operating checkpoints throughout the area.
2. Parking Regulations Designed for Public Safety
There will be no parking along Memorial Drive, Storrow Drive, or Soldiers Field Road on Saturday and Sunday, October 20th and 21st. The Massachusetts State Police urges guests and spectators to use public transportation throughout the weekend.
3. Proper Disposal of Trash
Spectators are asked to use the trash receptacles provided to promote a clean and hazard-free environment.
